8 people in a church near my town were excommunicated
because they were democrats.

excommunicated were not democrats but just related to
them. adn also, they didnt believe in abortion or gay marriage...

I don't understand.. they formally announced in a church that they were no longer going to talk to those people because of the reasons you said?

Hehe! I want to go to London England myself. Or at least Boston! They're the only sane state around here anymore it seems. I think New York will be next for the whole Gay Marriage thing or Abortion, they're all liberals and democrats. *sigh* Why does PA have to be so lame. =[ *lives in PA* ;-)

NEW YORK REPRESENT

It's a lovely little liberal bubble here...you'd all enjoy it immensely. A little expensive, but hey, it's cool.

Umm, maybe the people in that church are clinically insane. But it's clear bullshit. Helllooo! Separation of Church and State! I swear that whole "plan" has gone to hell. Theres an American flag on just about every alter and they're tax exempt. *sigh*

I really can't think of a explanation. It sounds kinda like segregation but with political parties. It's sad though, thats those radcons for ya.

Separation of church is designed to prevent government from designing law/policy/etc. based on religion. Religion is still free to make any decision they want based on anything... that said, on the face of it, I disagree with this particular churches decision, but it is they're decision to make. That is what the first amendment is all about.

but it is they're decision to make.

No, it's not actually. This crosses the line into politics, something that churches can't do, as that's one of the requirements to be tax exempt. This particular church should lose it's status, immediately. Then it can go ahead and be as crazy as it wants.

Ouch, I used the wrong "their." Anyways, I wasn't aware that tax laws had that stipulation. Either way, it's not a "separation of church and state" (first amendment) issue, so much as it's a tax law issue. Still, your point is well taken.

OK, I read a little about the tax laws. I do see that tax exempt churches aren't allowed to endorse a particular candidate or specific legislation, but I can't tell if just endorsing a particular political party is enough to loose the status. Do you know? Thanks.

Wait. They were excommunicated? That's so awesome, I didn't know that still happened! Do you have a link to that? My students are just finishing up Medieval times and excommunicate was one of their vocab words. I would love to show a modern example to them.

Wow, I was being sarcastic, but I could see the southerners being uneducated and biased. Not all, of course, just the ones who believed Bush when he said "God" wanted him to be President. It just shows the ignorance of Americans when it comes to politics. They can probably name all the drivers in NASCAR, but not their Senators or from President on down in the Administration.

First of all, I wasn't putting all Southerners in the grouping of idiots. Read my comment, I was saying the uneducated ones, the yokels, the ones who think that Jesus is the way to the White House. If you fit into the class of morons that I listed, then you have all the right to be pissed, but if not, then why the ballbusting? I'm not gonna sugarcoat things to make anybody feel better. This country needs help and if people, all over, would wake the fuck up and vote for the right reasons and not for God or because the President has a good personality, we would be in much better shape. The reason I say that about the south is becasue it is them, NOT ALL OF THEM, that voted for God and caused this country to be the laughing stock of the world.
Look at the red state, blue state map and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Nothing is getting better and nothing will unless this fucking Republican Party ceases to exist.

I just surfed here from the dailykos page. Right now they're begging for more details. Kos is one of the most-read blogs on the ENTIRE web, so don't be surprised, Gracie, if you get an ass-load of hits today. Also if you have any more info on this story please share. The television station that reported this chicanery hasn't put the story up on their site yet, but something as ballsy and unchristian as this is sure to get national attention. I hope those victims of that snake pit that's calling itself a place of worship find a more righteous place to worship. Peace.

They will probably be defended by the likes of Tom Delay and other sleezy Repubs. It won't get as much as if a Church kicked out people for being Republican. Then the Repubs would come out swinging.

hold on, hold on, hold on.

that is FUCKED UP.

and also, even if they WERE democrats, and did believe in abortion and gay marriage, that's not a reason to be excommunicated! I don't understand---I thought people as close-minded as this died CENTURIES ago.

Where have you been? They are not the Kings Men anymore, but simply Republicans. They don't want to deal with people that disagree with them. Or have something they want, like Iraqi blood.....er...I mean oil!
